Southam Swimming Club are looking for an enthusiastic Level 2 Head Coach.
We are a small and friendly Club based in Southam, Warwickshire. We offer a caring and inclusive environment for swimmers across all levels – a competitive Club with a community feel. We are part of the West Midlands Region, (incorporating Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire).
Reporting to the Chairman and Club Secretary, the successful candidate will be integral in the development, growth and future success of the Club.
The pathways and progression from Learn to Swim entry up to Regional competition level need to be refined and embedded and the successful candidate will devise a programme that takes a swimmer from LTS through to becoming a talented swimmer. In addition, you will cater for those who do not wish to compete but remain engaged in swimming as a means of fitness, recreation and participation.
The role would suit someone looking to take on a new challenge. You will be entering an organisation that needs leadership and the successful candidate will be given the opportunity of helping to shape and define the Club by:
- Assisting in the continued development of the Club, its structure and objectives;
- Creating Club goals;
- Developing and enhancing the Club’s squad structure;
- Developing and delivering the Club’s training programme;
- Assisting to develop the Club’s competition programme;
- Preparing and leading the training sessions;
- Mentoring the Coaching and Poolside Team.
Currently the Club has 3 hours water time per week with access to more which we are keen to utilise.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to and helping deliver the Club’s vision and objectives;
- Devising training plans which maximise on pool time across all squads;
- Monitoring and reviewing swimmers’ progress;
- Coordinating swimmer movements between squads in conjunction with the other squad coaches and communicating this to the Committee;
- Forward planning to ensure that the correct level of coaches/teachers are available poolside for training sessions;
- Ensuring the coaching team maintain accurate records of attendance;
- Liaising with the Club Chairman and Club Secretary to manage and lead the training and competition programme for all Club members;
- Liaising with the Events Coordinator to ensure there are regular and appropriate competitive opportunities for all swimmers;
- Attending and supervising swimmers at events/competition;
- Maintaining links with the LTS Programme to create a clear pathway to the Club;
- Providing a Coaching Report for Committee meetings and, if requested, to report to the Club Chairman and/or Club Secretary on an ad-hoc basis;
- Attending relevant training and CPD as required;
- Managing and mentoring the Coaching and Poolside Team including recommendation for upskilling as appropriate;
- Communicating with the Committee (and wider membership where appropriate) on coaching matters;
- Supporting swimmers to reach their full potential through teaching, coaching and development of competitive skills;
- Adhering to Wavepower 2020-2023 (Child safeguarding policy and procedures) and future updates as they occur;
- Contributing to the SwimMark accreditation;
- Completing any other activities deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running and success of the club.
Qualities:
- Good communication and administrative skills;
- Strong leadership qualities;
- The ability to inspire, motivate, develop and mentor the Coaching and Poolside Team as well as Club swimmers;
- The ability to work independently in addition to being part of a team.
Qualifications required:
- ASA Coaching Level 2 Swim England Swimming Coach. There is a possibility that we will take a Level1 Coach and support training to achieve Level 2 status.
